Applications are due by Friday, June 4th by 5 pm EST

As the User Researcher - Insights & Design, you will report to the Senior Director, New Ventures & User Research, Paige Halam-Andres, and be responsible for using research to help design and scale new ventures. Your time will be split between generative research, evaluative research, client consulting, and business design. The throughline to all these activities is that you thrive in making sense of markets, people, products, and contexts that help inform the design of strategies, products, and new businesses. If you're a researcher who enjoys analyzing and thinking deeply about how research can be used to uncover and tell the story of new business opportunities, this is the role for you.

Highline Beta was founded with the mission of building better ventures. Our thesis is this: by unlocking the assets within large companies, we can help them grow beyond their core through internal and external innovation.

We're blending an innovation consulting business with a venture capital business, giving us the best of both worlds. We're building a team of exceptional people that are excited by the prospect of working at a company that's doing something different and delivering incredible value.

Our team at Highline Beta is customer-obsessed doers who are driven by outcomes over outputs. You will be collaborating with a cross-functioning team made up of researchers like Chloe Blanchard, designers like Benjamin Prigent, and strategists like Lindy Bates.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Participate in client consulting, helping define both the scope and plan for early stage generative research projects
  • Define the future and where opportunity lies, using qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to ideate future states
  • Create materials for user research testing such as concept tests, prototypes, landing pages, and ads - using a variety of digital tools and methods
  • Monitor and analyze markets, competitive and secondary research to identify trends, technological advances, and innovation opportunities in relevant fields across industries and geographies that could be relevant to the research opportunities you work on
  • Synthesize and rationalize secondary and primary research findings into actionable insights and recommendations to inform potential solutions / business cases
  • Present and facilitate research in compelling ways amongst a cross-functional internal and external team

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • You have 3-5 years experience in design or user research
  • You have experience leading the process of formulating and executing research plans
  • You will have experience creating artifacts for digital user testing; e.g. concept tests, prototypes, wireframes
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and scrappy research - to propel a business forward rather than to exhaustively validate your research hypotheses
  • You have generative as well as evaluative research experience and know how to both formulate a hypothesis and how to pick the right method and tool to validate it
  • You are able to act independently and switch between multiple projects
  • You are a critical thinker and use user-centered design and startup innovation frameworks (Design Thinking, Jobs to be Done, Lean Startup, DVF, etc.)
