The Opportunity
We're on a mission to transform the insurance space.. As a key member of our first new venture in the InsurTech space, you will help establish a next-generation reinsurance solution in the Property & Casualty (P&C) market.
Our venture is fully backed by Highline BETA, a startup co-creation and venture capital firm based in Toronto, Canada, with extensive experience structuring new ventures with companies such as Royal Bank of Canada and Anheuser-Busch InBev.
As a Technical Lead you will work with the team to lead, build and manage the all the engineering aspects of the venture. From an initial MVP you will work with the team to evolve it into bonafide product in the insurance space. In parallel help grow the team product development abilities and shape the venture vision as the lead.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
You will be the one of the first developers for a new InsurTech startup, working closely with the Entrepreneur in Residence leading the venture, to define the product strategy and roadmap, while also managing the day to day details of execution and delivery. You will be leading and inspiring a engineering team through the end-to-end lifecycle of building a product that customers love, from discovery to launch and iteration.
- Work with different stakeholders (product, design, business) to establish product roadmap
- Engage as lead technical voice in setting up product sprints
- Build and ship product changes and features at a regular cadence
- Potentially mentor and support other developers
This is a highly entrepreneurial opportunity and you will have the autonomy and agency to shape both the startup and your role going forward.
What you'll need
Qualifications
Core Qualifications:
- 3+ years software development experience
- Experience leading engineering team(s)
- Prior experience with any of Rails, JS, React or GraphQL
- Experience with DevOps process and tools (CI/CD, testing, infrastructure)
Nice-To-Haves:
- Built engineering teams from the ground up before
- Can jump around between back-end and front-end stacks
- Experience working in startups
- Believe in a Lean, iterative, experiment-driven approach
