The Junior Accountant is the subject matter expert for Treasury Management including Cash Flow Forecasting to monitor cash flow position, identify risks, and make fund management recommendations in a timely manner while ensuring adherence with debt covenants and associated debt management. The incumbent requires a thorough understanding of all transactions, associated business processes, applicable legislative and regulatory considerations, appropriate accounting treatments, and end-to-end flow of journal entries throughout the entire process cycle. The Jr. Accountant also contributes to the preparation of corporate budget and projections and is responsible for monthly analysis of financial performance and impact on goals set.

Responsibilities

Financial Accounting - Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis to ensure financial transactions are complete, reliable, and compliant with IFRS standards and other applicable legislation; maintain a solid understanding of CoA and tax rules.

Reporting and Analysis - Prepare internal and external reports and requests for information, as required.

Budgets and Projections - Work closely with Operating Expense business planners of minimally complex cost centers to prepare the annual budget and quarterly projections using a strong understanding of IFRS regulations to ensure financial accuracy and compliance. Validate assumptions, analyze results to assess impact on corporate goals, and provide recommendations regarding risks and opportunities.

Variance Analysis – Analyze monthly financial results for assigned cost centers to assess impact on ALC's corporate financial goals. Identify targets at risk, investigate root cause and make recommendations for course correction.

Treasury Management (SME) – Maintain completeness and accuracy of Cash Flow Forecasting and associated Debt Management including issues management, weekly line of credit, debt repayment, covenant compliance, etc.; liaise with Bank contacts to maintain current and accurate documentation; provide business and customer support as required.

Due Diligence Analysis - Perform due diligence analysis on prospective and existing vendors as required.

Compliance and Documentation - Review, analyze and action change to align with emerging standards and legislation changes to ensure appropriate and correct recognition in accordance with CRA and other applicable legislation; regularly review and update all assigned standards, processes and procedural documentation to ensure they are accurate and complete.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • You have a college diploma in Accounting or equivalent
  • You have a minimum of three years’ experience in Finance/Accounting
  • You have a high level of accuracy/attention to detail
  • You are customer service focused
  • Experience with Oracle eBS and Hyperion considered an asset
  • Possession of, or working towards, the CPA designation is considered an asset
