The Government of New Brunswick (GNB) is searching for the next generation of public problem solvers as part of the Public Innovation Internship Program.
Three or more successful applicants will be hired for one year, starting as early as May 1st, with the possibility of renewing the contract for another year.
The Public Innovation Internship Program is designed to identify top talent and grow GNBs Innovation Talent Pool. Join a dynamic team of public servants who are passionate about improving the lives of New Brunswickers.

What you'll do
Your number one responsibility is to be a driver for innovation and bring a passion for problem-solving. You’ll be thinking outside the box and ready to make an impact.
Together with the team, you will help create a culture of innovation within GNB and bring exciting new perspectives while contributing to developing systems thinking, citizen engagement, open data, human-centered design, and experimentation.
During orientation, you will participate in an initial series of workshops to learn about how the government works, how to foster an inclusive work culture and innovative tools for problem-solving. You will be assigned a mentor in your department, who will help guide you through the projects you will be working on.

- Work in teams across multiple departments.
- Engage in accelerated learning.
Your workload will be project based, and you’ll need to be eager to manage your deliverables while balancing your priorities.
The work environment will bring exciting new challenges, and you’ll be engaged in finding the best ways to provide value to the projects and teams with whom you’ll be working. Excitingly, you’ll also have few typical days, as the new challenges brought to the table will require agility and adaptability.
What you'll need
You bring the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You have the kind of personality that is always striving for change and impact.
You possess an eagerness to excel both independently and as part of a group. You are a curious, life-long learner (more concerned about “getting it right”, than “being right”). You recognize the risks inherent in maintaining the status quo.
You need to:
- Have graduated from a university or college within the last 4 years.
- Bilingualism is considered an asset.
- Demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities.
You should be able to demonstrate:
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Evidence of creative thinking in problem-solving.
- Capacity for independent work and initiative.
Your attitude and approach to innovative problem solving is more important than your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:
