Based in Atlantic Canada, CAA Atlantic has more than doubled in size in the past 10 years and now counts more than 244,000 Members in all 4 Atlantic Provinces. CAA is currently seeking an experienced Manager to oversee our fleet of Roadside Service Technicians in our Halifax/Dartmouth location. Reporting to the Vice President of Automotive Services, the Fleet Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the CAA Dartmouth Fleet, including fleet vehicle service and maintenance, direct management of the Dartmouth ERS team, and overall management for the Dartmouth Fleet Center. This is to ensure we provide outstanding service to our Members, while maintaining a safe and reliable fleet of ERS Vehicles. This is a medium to heavy work load position, with some duties falling under heavy to very heavy work load. Core job requirements require applicants to meet rigorous physical standards. Offers will be conditional upon meeting acceptable standards.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Direct and participate in all maintenance, repair and recovery functions for ERS Fleet vehicles, including work done in house and at external service centers.
  • Determine the most cost-effective approach for Fleet repairs, maximizing internal resources as required.
  • Ensure vehicle-related functions and activities comply with established laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Direct and participate in the preparation and maintenance of records and files related to vehicles, maintenance, repairs, projects, mileage, depreciation, financial activity and assigned duties.
  • Review the work of maintenance personnel to assure compliance with established standards, guidelines and procedures.
  • Be a coach and leader to the Dartmouth ERS team
  • Manage and evaluate all aspects of performance for the Dartmouth ERS team, including employee recognition, and disciplinary action as required.
  • Conduct regular ride along sessions with Fleet drivers to assess safety and performance.
  • Direct fleet-related risk management training, such as safety and accident prevention programs.
  • Assist with the processing of insurance claims involving fleet vehicles.
  • Investigate damage claims and Member complaints.
  • Interface with Members as required.
  • Ensure adequate personnel, equipment and material levels to meet maintenance, servicing and repair needs
  • Manage staff scheduling and coordinate and approve time cards with payroll.
  • Perform ERS duties as required during peak workload periods.
  • Other duties as required.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to Red Seal Mechanic
  • Above average coaching, management and communication skills
  • Minimum 6 years' experience within the automotive / fleet industry
  • Must have extensive experience in fleet maintenance including vehicles over 4500kgs.
  • Superior project management and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Ability to collaborate with internal business partners, senior management and suppliers
  • Excellent organizational, strategic, planning and implementation skills
  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects
  • Build strong relationships and be recognized as a leader.
  • Proven skills to interact effectively with employees to set clear expectations and assess performance against expectations.
  • Hands on approach
  • Strong computer skills, excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs.
