The Opportunity
McInnes Cooper is seeking a Legal Assistant in our Halifax office. The incumbent will be responsible for providing high quality administrative support for a small group of busy lawyers and will be a proactive member of our cross-border law team.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
As a liaison between the Firm and clients, the incumbent will be responsible for:
- Assist in managing team workflow for client matters and marketing efforts, including the maintenance of a detailed work delegation process, tracking deadlines and following-up with key contacts and team members
- Take part in team planning meetings by taking effective meeting minutes and following up on action items
- Provide calendar management including planning, organizing, and coordinating: meetings, conference calls, and events including making appropriate logistical arrangements
- Correspond and communicate on behalf of the lawyers, and complete client invoicing
- Assist with cross-border team business development initiatives including team blog maintenance, and marketing efforts through social media
- Conduct industry research and share relevant materials with team members
- Collaborate with Marketing department to coordinate client events
- Liaise with Accounting department to establish client rates and arrange for billing
- Other duties as assigned
What you'll need
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following skill set:
- Minimum of three years experience providing administrative support
- Business Administration Degree or related education
- Excel in a demanding, high-pace environment, be highly detail-oriented, and be flexible to changing priorities
- Exceptional technology skills, with proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office and has a genuine interest in keeping up to date with the newest technology
- Exceptional communication skills, a special focus on client service and the highest degree of professionalism
- Working in a team environment, the successful candidate will be strong team player and have high personal integrity
- Previous experience in a corporate law firm is preferred
